What is meditation ? More importantly what can it do for you ?

Before we look at what meditation techniques can do for you, let's quickly look at what meditation means.

Meditation can be broadly classified under the mind-body medicine and is one of the proven alternative therapies. To keep this simple, we can divide meditation into two categories. 

Concentrative Meditation & Mindfulness Meditation

Concentrative meditation will focus your attention on your breath. As you focus on your breath, sound or image you narrow your focus, and as there is a mind body connection your body will respond. 

To be fearful you must think fearful thoughts, so if you limit your focus to your breath the mind clears, the body relaxes and you allow for greater awareness and clarity.

Mindfulness meditation can be described as you becoming an observer of your own thoughts. Imagine sitting behind your own eyes, looking out and being aware of all your thoughts, but not interacting or focusing on them.

When you observe the big picture without interaction, fear, worries, anger and all other emotions vanish. This can have the affect of a calm and clear mind. Learning not to react can be a powerful tool as you can let go of a lot of emotion.
