Keeping
your eyes open while you meditate will keep all of your senses open and
gathering information. Your goal should not be sleep, but rather to
enter a state of relaxed alertness. You don't want to enter a trance
state, either. Keep your eyes relaxed, not focusing on any one thing,
and let your mouth stay open a bit, too. The time length of

Use
short sessions of four or five minutes during your initial meditations,
and then take a short break for a minute or two. You may actually be
meditating during the break, as you get used to the feeling. If you can
set aside the same time each day for meditation, that is also
beneficial. It's helpful to get up 15 or 20 minutes early in the
morning to meditate, in preparation for the day. Then you can set aside
a time before bedtime to release the pent-up stresses of the day. With
two sessions a day, you can help your full day to be infused with joy
